Parenting chronicles: The next generation enigma

Welcome to my world, where medical realities meet the messy, magical journey of motherhood. Here, I share my experiences as a valproate-affected woman raising a family, navigating chronic illness with a side of silliness. There needs to be more research, and together, we can highlight this vital need.

Parenting chronicles: finding the way through the unknown

This space is going to be a bit like a mini blog but for the kids. I'm going to share some of our hilarious experiences from parenting our second generation kids as I don't know anyone else at the moment. If anyone else wants to share then just send me an email at the address on the bottom of the homepage.

Audrey

Audrey is my youngest daughter and about to start school in September. I have always been amazed at her ability for mischief. She is very much my clone. If you can't find her panic because she's either in the loft pulling out shiny things or in the garden jumping on the trampoline in her pjs. She's the face of an angel but make sure she doesn't pick your pocket!
Audrey was diagnosed with atopic asthma at 23months and it has taken ALOT to get her to this point where she has had 2 colds in winter and no hospital visits as opposed to the 19 we had in her first year of diagnosis. I've never been concerned about her development but it's hard to tell sometimes.

Phoebe

Phoebe is my oldest daughter and she is 11. She likes to be challenged and I think she will really enjoy secondary school. She's an excellent swimmer and likes maths and computers which is unsurprising.

She's been fairly healthy, but struggles with low ferratin.  she has missing tendons in her index fingers and has ADHD

Silas

Silas is 1 and my youngest. He's a bit delayed developmentally but he makes up for it in sass and 'bombastic sideye!' According to the kids. He's learning to walk at the moment and he's taking it slow like all my kids have. He's full of energy and is always trying escape upstairs to play without an adult following him. He's always up to something including recently crawling off with the flash mop from the kitchen and refusing to give it back. Slightly fixated on the dustpan at the moment as well!

June

Its been weirdly calm lately and there has been very little drama from the kids at all. I'm still battling to get them seen by genetics which seems to have been responded to with confusion from the medical team.
